ARTISTs PRESS opens its 120 sqm Guest Room to invited artists and on special occasions twice a year. The exhibitions take place in a private atmosphere and are either related to publications or the artists exploring new projects there. The space is located in a former ballet school in Berlin-Kreuzberg, and gained international reputation in the 1970s when the former publishing company Elefanten Press opened an experimental gallery there.

ARTISTS’ PRESS (Basel-Berlin-Geneva) and Rudolf Zwirner present ON BEAUTY, a new publication featuring Agnes Martin’s iconic text from 1989 in the handwritten original and supplemented by new translations.

In April 1989, Agnes Martin gave her lecture on beauty to a young audience in Santa Fe. Thirty-five years later, we live in a completely different world, while her autonomous, clear and poetic lines still speak for themselves. Today, beauty becomes a question of spiritual survival, an antidote in a dangerous and increasingly harsh world poisoned by polarisation. In times of uncertainty, her uncompromising plea for beauty proves to be a particularly valuable artistic legacy, uniquely condensed between the handwritten lines of this historical lecture and the universality of her painted horizon lines.
